Snowshoe Adventure

We all met at LCHS at 8:00am.  As usual it was POURING down rain.  As we climbed in elevation the rain turned to heavy snow.  We finally reached the White Salmon non-motorized sno-park after two delays due to spin outs and crashes, only to find that they had not plowed the park open.  We could not even get in.  So up we went to the White Salmon Lodge and parked.  We donned our snowshoes and trekked across the parking lot and into the wilderness with Mrs. Unema leading the way.  The snow was DEEP and we all quickly learned it was smart to be towards the end of the line rather than the front.  The people in the front of the line do all the work!  Go Mrs. Unema!  After a few false starts ending in deep tree wells where we had to turn around (you do not walk backwards in snowshoes), we made a nice trail through the woods and found a spot to set up for lunch.  Our two trusty chefs set up the camp stove and boiled water for hot chocolate.  After lunch we walked around the woods and admired the beautiful scenery and played in the snow.  We made our way back to the parking lot, loaded up and headed back down the mountain.
Adventure is out there!!

Changes

Due to heavy snow, frigid temperatures and avalanche danger, our snowshoe adventure that was scheduled for February 26 was postponed.  Snowshoeing has been re-scheduled for Saturday March 5.  Our meeting scheduled for TONIGHT, March 8, has been cancelled.  Our outing for March 19 has also been cancelled.  We will resume our posted schedule for April and combine geocaching with our Conservation Project
