Skiing/Boarding Adventure

We are going skiing/boarding tomorrow!  Just checked the snow report at Mt. Baker and it has FINALLY cooled down to 31 degrees and it is SNOWING!  Three inches of new snow in the last hour.  It's supposed to continue snowing throughout the night.  Let's hope so, because the conditions up there over the last few weeks have been AWFUL.

May have some sad news in regards to the proposed snowmobile trip.  The Sno-Park here is now closed due to a landslide and road wash out.  Chances are the county does not have the resources to fix it during the winter months.  This is not good :(.  But, we will keep checking on it.

Adventure is out there!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

We held our Christmas party this past Tuesday.  After a needed business meeting we had a drawing for fly fishing themed gift bags, a raucus game of Pictionary and then some snacks.  We ended the evening by working on our journals...scrapbook style!
Copper was "in" on the business meeting as well.
 Copper made new friends :)

Stephanie gets her chance at a gift bag!
 Fun STUFF!

Renae won the drawing for the vintage fly tying kit that was generously donated by one of our Fourth Corner Fly Fisher gentleman.  THANK YOU!
Pictionary...and the competition was FIERCE.  Prizes?  Swedish Fish, of course.

PLAN AHEAD FOR THE CHRISTMAS PARTY

Our club Christmas party will be held December 7 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.  Plan to come and work on your journals. We also have some business that needs to be taken care of. We will have a selection of photographs (five) for each member to use in their journals.  If you want additional photos to add to your journal, feel free to grab them off of this blog and print them.  We will need an accurate count of who will be attending by November 29th so we can plan accordingly.  Please let Breanna know if you will or will not be attending.  PLEASE NOTE THAT ATTENDANCE AT THIS MEETING IS MANDATORY IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ACTIVITY FOR JANUARY.

Fly Tying with the Professionals....

This past Saturday we had two gentlemen from the Fourth Corner Fly Fishers join us for a morning of fly tying lessons.  We learned a LOT.  We enjoyed some good snacks and a delicious lunch provided by Breanna's mom.

This fly is called an "ice cream cone".

This "Black Muddler" just may become our club's "signature fly".  THANKS EROL!

Feathers, Hackles and Tails...OH MY!

For our meeting on November 2, two gentlemen from the 4th Corner Fly Fishers joined us to teach basic fly tying.  It was an information packed hour and a half!  By the end of the evening many of the girls had mastered the basics as you will see from the pictures below.  This is truly an art form.  These gentlemen will first sketch what they wish to create as a fly.  These are intricate drawings folks!  Something you really have to see to believe.  One fly took 14 hours to create.  It's for sale too....in a shadow box...$400.00.  After seeing the work that went into it, $400.00 seems a bargain for such a piece of art.  It was a fun night and a lot was learned. We have to remember that less is more, and to try not to "tie on the whole bird".  And quality is better than quantity.  OH and we had 100% attendance!  Way to go girls!  A HUGE thank you to the 4th Corner Fly Fishers.  Adventure is out there!

The above three flies were tied by OUR girls last night.  Pretty impressive, isn't it?
